I make accessories out of reclaimed material, mostly. What on earth would possess me to decide to make dog coats?
A birthday gift of a bolt of fabric and a new pattern.
I am fairly easily distracted. It doesn’t take much for me to get side tracked.
Also, while not having a clear vision for Foul Mouthed Martha can be detrimental in terms of focus and direction, in this case it keeps me open to different possibilities. I am willing to try just about anything to see if it takes off.
I have thought about teaching classes, although I wonder about my level as a seamstress and I would like to take a few more classes myself to get the feel of them. I have also thought about commercial embroidery. There are a lot of steps I would have to take before I started something like that.
Anyway, I think one of the mindsets of being successful is being open to new possibilities. Some ideas, like baby items, I am not interested in due to the labeling compliance. I use mostly recycled fabric so there is no way I am going to spend my time tracking down origin information. So while I will sew baby items for friends and family, I don’t want to turn it into a business.
I figure I will be trying different things out until I find an idea that sticks. Maybe its dog coats. Maybe it is purses despite how much I want to charge for them. Maybe its hats. Maybe it is something I haven’t even heard of yet.
Who knows where the million dollar idea will come from, but I know these dog coats are really freaking cute. You should totally go look at the at the Foul Mouthed Martha Shop.
